What is the minimum age for bidding?

All StarsCharityAuction registered users and bidders must be at least 18 years old.  Some auction experiences, such as set visits, walk-on roles and tickets to shows, are non appropriate for children.  Those restrictions are outlined in terms and conditions.  If you have any questions about children attending an auction experience as the winner’s guest, please contact us before placing your bid.

What do I need to do to bid?

After Joining Us For Free, you will need to create your Auction Wallet.   This process only takes few minutes and and when you’re done, you can place bids, or buy auctions.

What is Auction Wallet and why do you need my credit card information?

StarsCharityAuction takes pride on never auto charging your credit card.  This means if you’re an auction winner, you will still need to approve the payment for your winning bid amount, shipping, and sales tax if applicable.  Once you win a charity auction and receive an invoice to donate, you approve the amount and payment yourself.

StarsCharityAuction’s Auction Wallet is only asking for your billing information to reduce fraud and verify that you have a valid credit card to process your donation should you be a winner of a charity auction. This ensures all bidders sincerity and prevents some from placing bids with no intention of donating.

 All payment information stored here for future donations is secured using PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of encryption and tokenization available.

Can I retract my bid?

No, as we are pretty strict about this.  All bids placed on the StarsCharityAuction website are legally binding.  If you are the successful bidder, you will enter into a legal contract to purchase the item and will be considered the buyer of the auction.  Please consider your bids carefully before placing them.  Its always a good idea to bid responsibly.

 

What are the bid increments?

Bid increments  works out the amount of the next “minimum bid” required for a bidder to bid on an auction.  The required increment for each new bid is calculated according to a price table of “bid increments” that StarsCharityAuction maintains as a matter of bidding policy. Here’s how the bid increments stack up.

I don’t live in the United States. Can I bid?

Absolutely! We’re a global community, although some items may be restricted to a specific geographic area. Please read the description and terms carefully before you place a bid.

Will I get notified if I am outbid?

Yes! You will receive an email and a notification on your account the moment you are outbid. Place info@StarsCharityAuction.com on your safe sender list so that these important notices don’t get caught by your spam filter. If you use Gmail, you may want to move StarsCharityAuction emails into your primary folder. 

Browsing & Searching For Auctions (5)

Can I search auctions by charity beneficiary?

At this time, you are not able to search auctions based on list of nonprofit organizations.  The reason being, is StarsCharityAuction has over 1.5 Million different charities that we work with.  Therefore, it would not be feasible to search through such a large list to pull up auctions benefiting a particular charity.

 

Can I act as bidder and also hold my own charity auction?

Absolutely, you may bid on any auction you desire and hold your own charity auction to raise money for your favorite charity.  Our website prohibits you for placing bids on your own charity auction, but StarsCharityAuction encourages its users to act as bidders and auctioneers.

I have a specific request for an experience but don’t see it on your site. Can you help?

How do I join StarsCharityAuction?

Registration is free and easy.  To begin, just click on the Join For Free.  First, create a username and password, or connect to StarsCharityAuction through your Social Media account, such as Facebook.  Please chose your username carefully as it will be displayed anytime you place a bid or hold an auction for your favorite charity.  Then enter your email address and your first name.  You are now registered and may search auctions.

Optionally, under Settings you may also update your image or your company image and a bit about yourself.

Does it cost anything to join?

There is no cost to join or to become a StarsCharityAuction bidder.   StarsCharityAuction will not auto charge your credit card even when you win an auction.

Are you going to sell my email address to spammers?

StarsCharityAuction will never share any of your personal information with commercial third parties.  If you win an auction, we will give your name and contact information to the benefiting nonprofit organization through FirstGiving, the processing center for donations, so they can formally thank you for your generous bid and provide you with a tax deductible email letter for your donation.

What security measures does StarsCharityAuction use to keep my personal and credit card information safe?

Safeguarding your personal information is of the utmost importance to us.  Through our partnership with FrontStream, StarscharityAuction adheres to the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 which is the highest level of security available.

This is a set of requirements around data security that covers areas like security policies and their enforcement, system and network architecture, software design, and monitoring and testing.  All transactions are conducted via a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encrypted channel.  Your credit card information and other personally identifiable information (PII) is never sent in plain encrypted text.   StarsCharityAuction uses the highest level of encryption and tokenization available through our Auction Wallet.  Transaction information is stored in a secure and encrypted manner and a token is assigned to all bidder.  When bidders are ready to make payment for a winning bid, the assigned token is used and not the encrypted credit card.  This process reduces any risk of your credit card information from being compromised.  Our employees have access to your name and contact information, but no one has access to your credit card information.

How do I change my password?

To change your current password, Sign In to your StarsCharityAuction account.  You may change your password under Settings.  You may enter a new password and confirm password.

If you have forgotten your password, you may request to reset your password.

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address, Sign In to your StarsCharityAuction account.  You may change your email under Settings.

Can I change my username?

You are not able to change your username.  That is the reason why we ask you to choose your username carefully at the time of Joining Us.  We’ll let you know if it’s already in use.

On certain circumstances, usernames may be changed.  Username needs to be unique.  Please contact us to request for your username to be changed.

Does StarsChairtyAuction conduct background checks?

For auctions regarding celebrity experiences, auction winners and their guests could be background checked through StarsCharityAuctoin.  If you are an auctioneer, you may request on the fine prints of your auction that the winning bidder and their guests must provide you with a valid background check through StarsCharityAuction at winner’s own expense.

The cost of background check starts at $49.00 per person.

How do I know my contributions will benefit charity?

From time to time, many charities and their supporters fall victim to scams that illegally make use of the good name and trademarks of charities.

You can rest assured that all donations from StarsCharityAucton are processed and distributed through FirstGiving.org, a trusted name with more than ten years of experience in working with nonprofits.  FirstGiving has raised in excess of 1 billion dollars in online charitable donations from over 13 million online donors.

All funds raised through StarsCharityAuction flow directly from FirstGiving to the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization of choice.  This means, StarsCharityAuction does not process or distribute any donations nor store any donation payment information.  In fact, for your peace of mind, StarsCharityAuction does not have any access to credit card donation payment information, at all.

We have also ensured that all the charities featured on StarsCharityAuction  hold a valid IRS 501(c)(3) status.

Does StarsCharityAuction charge a fee to its nonprofit partners?

There are no upfront fees to partner with StarsCharityAuction.  At the end of each auction, StarsCharityAuction keeps 8.5 percent of the total raised to cover its comprehensive services,website upkeep, pay for credit card and applicable fees.  StarsChairtyAuction fees are the lowest percentage in the charity auction industry and all our competitors.

StarsCharityAuction provides full auction management, including: brainstorming and strategy, writing copy and securing images, graphic design, marketing and promotions, shipping and reconciliation, as well as access to our community of socially sonscious bidders.  Excluding our 8.5 percent fee, 91.5 percent of net proceeds go directly to the nonprofit.

How can I earn money by StarsCharityAuction referral program?

There are two ways to earn money referring bidders and auctioneers to StarsCharityAuction.

If you have a website, you may request to join our affiliate program and earn 1% of the winning auction bidder amount that you refer to StarsCharityAuction.

You may also apply to become a auctioneer consultant for StarCharityAuction where you will be assigned a consultant’s referral number and earn 1% of the winning auction bidder amount for any auctions created with the help of the consultant.

Auctioneer consultant can not be the same as the auctioneer, and may not have an affiliate program.

How can I update my credit card information?

Sign In to your StarsCharityAuction account and then click on Auction Wallet under Settings menu.  For security purposes, StarsCharityAuction uses highest level of encryption and tokenization available.  For security purposes, our system does not allow you to edit your credit card information, instead you may enter a new credit card information at any time to replace your old credit card information.

Can I alternate charges between credit cards?

You may not split your winning auction payment between different credit cards.  Meaning, each auction may need to be paid by one credit card only.  But you may change your credit card payment information between approving payment of an auction, by entering new payment information under Auction Wallet.

How do I know if I’m the winning bidder?

StarsCharityAuction will send you an email with as soon as the auction is over informing you if you are the winning bidder.  You will then receive an invoice and you may then pay for your winning auction.  After payment is made, the auctioneer will be notified to get you the product or service.  You will also receive an email confirmation that you may use for any tax deduction for your generous contribution.

How do I pay for an item?

If you have the winning bid, you will receive an invoice after the auction expires.  You will then approve the payment for the auction.

Is the amount I paid for an auction item tax deductible?

Typically, the amount paid above the retail market value of the item is considered tax deductible.  The retail market value of an item is considered the cost of tangible goods and services received.  StarsCharityAuction also supplies an estimated value for experiences, which is the amount we feel an auction may sell for based on our previous auctions, however the final bid often exceed this amount.  Winners receive a receipt containing the retail market value of their purchase that can be submitted to a tax professional for determining any tax-deductible amount.  Please note that we’re not tax experts and can’t provide tax letters or tax advice.

Can I donate without bidding?

You may see an auction, that you like to donate to without bidding on the auction.  It could be you like the non-profit organization that the auction is benefiting, or the person or company who is holding the auction. Or it could be that you may not have any need for the product or services. Or you might be far away from where the event is taking place, but you still want to contribute to the cause.

What ever the reason could be, you may donate without bidding on an auction by simply clicking on the Donate Without Biding button on the auction page.   You set the amount you are comfortable contributing (Minimum donation is $5).  The auctioneer will receives notification of your generosity after you have made your contribution.

Which method of payment could I pay by for my winning bid?

You may pay by any major credit card such as American Express, Visa, Master Card, or Discover.  At this time we do not accept cash, money order, or check.  To update your payment information, please visit Auction Wallet.

If there are sales tax or shipping and handling charges that are associated with your auction, you may pay using Paypal.

Will I be charged sales tax?

You would only be charged sales tax if the auction that you win is a tangible item.  Meaning it can be touched or felt.  Also your ship to State in U.S. where you want the auction to be shipped to has to be the same State where the auctioneer is shipping from.  If these two conditions are meet then you will be charged the State tax.

 

Redeeming My Winnings (3)

Can I have items that I win shipped to a different address?

You may have your items shipped to any address you desire. Simply update the appropriate ship to address under Setting.

When will I receive my item?

For non-tangible items, StarsCharityAuction or the auctioneer will email winners detailed redemption instructions for experiences and redemption certificates that are in electronic format.  If you need a hard copy, please email the auctioneer after making your payment for your purchase so that your order gets fulfilled.

For tangible items, StarsCharityAuction wants to make sure you item arrives safely and quickly.  This is why we ask all our auctioneer to ship the items promptly.  Hard copies of tickets, travel certificates and merchandise are encouraged to ship via a viable carrier with tracking information as quickly as possible after payment is received from the winning bidder.  Auctioneers are required to use professional shipping services for delivery of high-value, tangible items and will work closely with you to arrange a convenient delivery date.  Auctioneers are encouraged to insure tangible items for the full value of the winning bid.

How do I arrange the celebrity experience I won?

Someone from StarsCharityAuction customer concierge team or staff on behalf of the celebrity will contact you to coordinate your celebrity experience on a mutually agreeable date.  You are welcome to contact us at any time with questions or concerns.

Setting Up My Own Auctions (10)

Do I need to be a star to hold my own auction for charity?

No, StarsCharityAuction encourages everyone to hold their own auction and raise money for their favorite charity.  So if you have a service or a product that you like to auction off for your favorite charity, you would first need to be Signed In and then request to be considered as an auctioneer.  We will review what you have to offer for auction and get back to you within one business day.

Can I change my favorite charity?

As an auctioneer, you are empowered to change your favorite charity at any time.  We encourage you to research when considering choosing your favorite charity.  After all, proceeds from your auctions benefit your favorite charity.

You may consider using using Charity Navigator, America’s leading independent charity evaluator, to research and choose a more efficient and responsive non profit organization to raise money for.

What is Reserve Price?

Occasionally, an auctioneer sets a minimum price, or reserve amount, that an auction must reach in order to be won.

What type of auction do you offer?

StarsCharityAuction offers Fixed Price and Standard Auction.

Fixed price auction allows no bidding. It’s an auction-style listing with a Buy It Now option, so buyers can choose buy it right away.

The Standard Auction bidding format allows a bidder to place a Proxy bid (aka Limit bid) for the maximum amount they are willing to bid.  When a new proxy bid is placed, which is less than the existing proxy bid, the high bid is only increased by the minimum amount (as dictated by the minimum raise rules at the new proxy bid level) required to keep the “proxy bidder” in the lead. 

In the future StarsCharityAuction will introduce Penny Auction.  More information to come in the future.

Can I act as bidder and also hold my own charity auction?

Absolutely, you may bid on any auction you desire and hold your own charity auction to raise money for your favorite charity.  Our website prohibits you for placing bids on your own charity auction, but StarsCharityAuction encourages its users to act as bidders and auctioneers.

How do I choose my favorite charity?

Before setting up your own charity auction, you will need to choose your favorite charity to raise money for.  Choosing your favorite charity is only available for auctioneers.  You will be instructed to choose a favorite charity after you have requested to be an auctioneer and before setting up your auction.

You will not be able to create your auction if you have not yet chosen a favorite charity to raise money for.  StarsCharityAuction offers over 1.5 Million 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations to choose as one your favorite charity.   Proceeds from your auctions benefit your favorite charity.

You may consider using using CharityNavigator, America’s leading independent charity evaluator, to research and choose a more efficient and responsive non profit organization to raise money for.

Is there a fee to create and hold a charity auction?

No, absolutely not.   StarsCharityAuction does not charge any annual or any sort of fees associated with holding a charity auction.  So if you have a product or service you like to auction to benefit your favorite charity please click here.

Do I or does StarsCharityAuction setup my charity auctions?

You have a choice.  You may create your own auction online after you have been approved to by our staff to be an auctioneer.  If you have yet to be approved to hold you own auction, you may request here.

Once you have been approved as an auctioneer, you may either contact our concierge desk and we will be more than glad to create your auction for you at no charge to you.  Or you may do it yourself online.

Can I setup more than one charity auction?

Yes, you may have as many charity auctions as you please.   Every auction that you create online will get approved by our staff to make sure it meets our auction criteria and once approved it will show up on our website.

Can I create auctions online by myself and/or through concierge?

You may either create charity auctions by yourself using our online form or by contacting our concierge desk.   You may create an online charity auction for some of your products or services and for others use our free concierge services to create the auctions on your behalf.
